If you’re in the market for a dining room rug, Keyes suggests going the secondhand route there, too, opting for a Persian or Turkish hand-knotted piece. “There aren't a lot of opportunities to add color and pattern to a dining rooms since tables and chairs are often wood or a solid color, so don't sleep on the opportunity to add some pizazz to the floor,” she says.

Do not hesitate to pick up a lamp base at the thrift store even if the shade isn't in great condition, Keyes shares.
"I love to visit my local lamp shop and add a new shade, and sometimes a new harp and finial," Keyes says. "The result is a one-of-a-kind lamp that’s cost-comparable or more affordable than a retail piece."

Kristin Keyes, founder of Kristin Keyes Interiors, will travel to Lebanon, about 25 miles east of Nashville, to shop for American antique wooden pieces. “Many are handmade,” she says. “I purchased a beautiful 1920s clawfoot pedestal table [seen below] for a song last winter, and it’s now the darling of the client’s dining nook. They immediately assumed it was haunted, and who am I to disagree?”
